Lady Liberty

We fitted the suit over video call, one of us by a pool in LA, the other one late at night in Hong Kong. It was made for a film that later premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. Seven years on, it's still one of the most memorable fittings we've done.

Back in 2019, the short film Lady Liberty, created and produced by Julia Lindon, made it to the red carpet at Tribeca Film Festival. We got to design and craft the outfit for one of the leads, played by Chip Hamilton alongside Jason Sudeikis. Seven years on, we're still a little proud of that one.
The tie and the pocket square Chip wore in the film never left. They're part of our essentials collection today, same as they were then. So we thought it was time to look back properly: the factory we had just switched to, the fitting done entirely over video call, and how far Chip has come since, now producing Ted Lasso, the Emmy-winning comedy series on Apple TV+.

This one belongs to Julia Lindon. She wrote it, produced it, and played the lead herself, which is the kind of thing we have a lot of respect for. Lady Liberty follows Shea Miller, a young comedian in New York finding her voice while working as an assistant to a far more established one, played by Jason Sudeikis. Underneath the comedy sits a coming-out story, Shea working out who she is while everyone around her already has a version of her in mind. The film picked up further recognition on the festival circuit that year.

| BACKSTAGE – THE FINAL FITTING |
We had just switched factories, mid-concept, and Chip's suit was one of the very first pieces we made with a new maker we were still getting to know. Seven years later, that partnership is still going strong.
The fitting itself happened over two calls, months apart. The first was Karin, our lead designer, in Hong Kong in the middle of the night, and Chip by a pool in Los Angeles with a few friends on hand to help with the measuring. A tape measure held up to a phone screen, a fourteen-hour time difference, Karin talking everyone through it step by step. She still calls it one of the most memorable fittings she's ever done.
The second call was the one that really mattered. For the final fitting, the costume designer brought Julia and Chip together in New York to lock in the suit before filming started. Karin was on a work trip in Sweden by then, up at four in the morning to catch ten at night in New York. Everything fit, first try. We'll take it.

Chip's suit was built on one of our signature cuts, in Vitale Barberis Canonico wool, worn with the Polka Tie and the Solid Frame pocket square, both in black. The Polka Tie is knitted silk with a square tip, made in Italy. The Solid Frame pocket square is silk from Como, with a white border set against the black. It's stayed one of our favorite combinations ever since, and you'll still find both in the collection today.

BACK ON SET

TED LASSO - SEASON 4
Happy to see the co-stars together again. Ted Lasso Season 4 premieres this week, August 5th, on Apple TV+, with Julia Lindon now writing for the show alongside her old co-star, coordinating producer Chip Hamilton, and, as we all know, its leading man, Jason Sudeikis, as Ted Lasso himself.
