Pas De Nom - Red wine 2022

Winemaking & Terrior
The 2021 Pas de Nom Red is a blend of 82% Syrah, 12% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot grown on the steep mid-slopes of Beau Constantia. They are hand-picked in the early morning hours, cooled overnight and processed to stainless-steel after being sorted down to berry level. The tank was slowly heated to temperatures that would accommodate natural fermentation, which took place under a watchful eye and curious palate that applied punch downs and pump overs as required for just the right amount extraction. Once fermentation was complete, free-run wine was drained to barrel via gravity, as with the wine derived from the fermented skins being basket-pressed. The wine remained in 225L French oak, of which 35% was new, for 18 months prior to being bottled. As with all our red wines, the 2021 Pas de Nom Red is unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes
A of bright crimson core with a ruby-red rim introduces a wine bold yet compelling. Upfront red berry fruits consume the senses at first before they surrender to sensations reminiscent of wet stones and our salty seas. On the palate, it maintains its red berry character, with noticeable mineral undertones bringing an invigorating mouthfeel to the wine. It holds our classic cool climate acidity, well-balanced by subtle tannins which ground the acidity and create a rounder, fuller mouthfeel. This wine displays dominant primary characteristics, showing a true depiction of the beautifully ripe 2021 fruit it preserves.

Pas de Nom
meaning "Without Name" is something so sublime that it could only be inspired by an individual of character, strength and temerity. This range of wines is a tribute to Beau's late farm manager, Japie Bronn, who has been instrumental in developing the vineyards on some of the steepest slopes in the Cape. 

About Beau & OAD
In 2019, the Scotts and us founders of OAD went on a trip to South Africa and was absolutely blown away by the experience we had at Beau Constantia. A borderline 10 out of 10 dining experience at the vineyard just outside Cape Town. More importantly, they also had a retail outlet of their pretty sublime wine. Not only great tasting notes, but also unreal value, which has since been an undefeated champ in our wine fridge over the past years. As we needed to restock our supplies, we learned that the great people over at Beau had yet to have a distributor in Hong Kong, so we entered a partnership based on our shared affinity of great wines and good times.
